Notorious W.H.I.P. - Ricky Romero Will Revisit 2009 in 2010
Each Saturday, Fantasy Drafts, showcases a major or minor league pitcher. And yes, we even touch upon the notorious WHIP.
Ricky Romero: LHP (Toronto Blue Jays) – In 2009, the starting pitcher completed his rookie campaign and the results were encouraging. The southpaw logged 178 innings and tallied a 141/79 K/BB ratio. Romero stormed out in 2009 and came into the All Star break with eight consecutive quality starts and 69 strikeouts from 87 innings. But like most rookie arms, he wore down in the second half and was downright atrocious leading to his sad ending WHIP of 1.52.
Will he rebound in 2010? Will the new regime view him as a long term investment? His poise and arsenal of pitches will keep him in most ballgames until he figures out how to control the walks and the fatigue.
Prediction:
Romero remains in the 2010 Jays rotation and again posts solid numbers before the MLB All Star break. Look to trade him at this juncture, but not for Sid Bream.
